Ornament Tutorial (Sort Of)

Let's just say I have a new respect for tutorial writers everywhere!  Thank you all so much for sharing your instructions and taking the time to explain things so beautifully!

I'm going to have to make my first tutorial be on something simpler than these ornaments.   These steps were easy to learn when sitting by my mom and following along, but when it came to writing them all down I was a little overwhelmed.  Not to worry, however, because there are some great tutorials already out there written by people who can explain this a lot better than I can!  Here are three of the best ones I've found:

The only difference in my ornaments and the ones shown in these tutorials is that most of these start on each end of the styrofoam ball, work toward the middle, then put ribbon around the center seam.  I like to work from the bottom all the way to the top so that more of the fabric is highlighted.

I hope you are having a great week!

Hi Jenean - this ornament is so pretty - the beads really add to it. I made 24 of these ornaments (3 inch styrofoam ball) for office friends. When I saw your Mom's ornament a few posts back I knew I had to make those for the office. I make a handmade ornament every year for the office folk. Some like them and some don't. But this year was a big hit with this ornament. Mine were just a bit different. I used a "pinecone" pattern. It's almost the same except there is not pin at the bottom point and the points are turned around where the seam or folds or against the ball. I'd send a picture - but I don't have access to a digital camera. I just love the beads though. I do have a question on how you finished the top - I didn't use quite as many ribbons as you - so I used a piece of the fabric - pinked the edges and glued down on top - to hide the raw edges of the top triangles and the pins. I also cut a small slice in the middle of the square of fabric to fit the hanging ribbon through and then used Fray Check around the where the ribbon was. How did you finish the top of your ornament? Thanks !!! Tammy V.
